On the subject of special guest, Derek Beres, wonder if anyone else in this tribe is reading his Global Beat Fusion book? A bunch of us in the World Music tribe have been doing that all summer--it is a wonderful book with lotsa insight into today's world electronica fusion scene imho.

That being said, the vibe at Nickies was far superior to Blue Cube - Blue Cube can literally be cold when there aren't a huge number of people there (Nickies was always packed, though!) It's tougher to get to & park for than Nickies was. And, it's hard to get a following going while absent touring for a new CD...
I'll try Soulsalaam's new Passport at Duplex on Wednesdays in the interim. (No cover, and Janaka is the guest tomorrow.) But I'll be looking for a regular weekday Cheb i Sabbah slot soon! :-) -

When the Tuesday nite residency changed into a Thursday nite, I thought, wow, this great, I'll be able to check it out when I'm in town for WORLDLY! However, I'm sure Chebi will soon have a regularly weekly residency somewhere somenite, after all, what would SF nightlife be without him? And I'm sure, we'll be among the first to know again, thanx to the diligent moderator of this tribe :)
Can't make it to Passport for the inaugural unfortunately (altho I've been telling all and sundry coming in to town much earlier than me to go!). Woulda really wanted to check out Soulsalaam (along with Amar and Janaka)--was hoping to see him on the eve of Worldly last December but Deshret was deserted when he was in Brazil ~*~ -

i think the blue cube was a bad idea too, no one wants to get assulted by the ghetto ass crack whores in that terrible neibhorhood, the Haight is much better for sure.
I hope he still has a weekly. even I cna't go all the time cause I get too tired all the time, I love that its an option.

Sun, September 18, 2005 - 2:25 PMI pray to beat gods that Cheb i Sabbah finds a new weekly. I can't always make it out to weekly's but have enjoyed supporting Cheb and all of the goodness he brings to the Bay Area.
